Legal & compliance

What is eIDAS?

eIDAS is the EU regulation that gives electronic signatures and trust services legal standing across the EU: a signature can't be denied legal effect simply for being electronic. By setting one common rulebook for proving who you are online, it lets companies, individuals and public bodies sign and transact digitally, and trust that the result holds up in every EU member state.

  • Electronic signatures. The regulation recognises several tiers of signature, each with its own evidentiary weight. Kaddye covers the two that everyday business runs on, Simple (SES) and Advanced (AES), so you can match the signature to the stakes of each document.

  • Trust services. Beyond signatures, eIDAS covers trust services like electronic time stamps and seals - the building blocks that keep a signed document verifiable over time, backed on Kaddye by a full audit trail and exports.

How does Kaddye comply with eIDAS?

Every signature made on Kaddye meets each of the conditions eIDAS sets for a valid electronic signature.

Proven intent

Each signature is tied to the person who made it and to their act of agreeing, leaving clear evidence the signer took part of their own accord.

Tamper-evident

The signature is cryptographically bound to the file's contents. Alter so much as a character afterwards and the signature breaks, exposing the change.

Recognised EU-wide

Signed documents carry legal effect under eIDAS and are accepted as evidence throughout the European Union.

This applies to Kaddye's AES tier specifically. Documents signed with AES are sealed with a qualified certificate from a trust service provider on the official EU Trusted Lists, using the PAdES standard, and that seal can be independently verified by anyone, anytime, via the official EU signature validator. Our Simple (SES) tier is a lighter click-to-sign signature and does not carry this seal.

Are Kaddye signatures legally binding?

Yes. Every signature created on Kaddye complies with eIDAS and is admissible as evidence in court across all 27 EU member states. Depending on whether you choose Simple (SES) or Advanced (AES), the document carries the corresponding legal effect.

What's the difference between SES and AES?

SES (Simple Electronic Signature) is a click-to-sign signature suitable for low-risk agreements. AES (Advanced Electronic Signature) is uniquely linked to the signer, capable of identifying them, and any subsequent change to the signed data is detectable, making it suitable for higher-value contracts and most everyday business documents.

Where is my data stored?

All documents and metadata are stored exclusively in our Amsterdam and Frankfurt regions, operated under EU jurisdiction.

Which identity providers do you support?

MitID (Denmark) & MitID Erhverv (Denmark) for AES. Draw, type or upload your signature for SES.

What about UETA and the ESIGN Act?

Kaddye is built for European law. We do not claim compliance with the U.S. Uniform Electronic Transactions Act (UETA) or the U.S. Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act (ESIGN Act). If your counterparties are based outside the EU/EEA, please consult local counsel on whether an eIDAS signature is suitable for your use case.

Can I cancel any time?

Yes. Plans are month-to-month. You can cancel from your workspace settings. No phone calls, no retention scripts. Your audit trails and evidence packages remain exportable forever.
